Rowdy Cowlick is the independent chainstitch embroidery studio of multi-disciplinary artist Hilary J. Corts.

Rowdy Cowlick was born from a passion for slowness and detail in a world of mass production. Working exclusively on hand-operated, non-digitized vintage Singer and Cornely chainstitch embroidery machines, Hilary creates unique works of art one by one. Each Rowdy Cowlick design celebrates the handcrafted nature of the medium, allowing for truly one-of-a-kind, heirloom-quality pieces.

As the daughter of a contemporary quilt designer and sister of a painter, Hilary’s work borrows components from several lifelong artistic practices. After falling in love with film cameras in her adolescence, she received her BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in NYC. Hilary is most inspired by music, tattoo culture, and simply existing in nature.

Custom work is available. Hilary is honored to collaborate with like-minded clients to create treasures that combine artist and collector. While her studio is based in Brooklyn, New York, she loves to travel and she’s available for opportunities worldwide.
